About the Author

I have grown up in Dallas, and with exception of college, I have lived here for the last 27 years.  After earning my first degree in French, I worked for a few years, and then headed back to school.  I earned my Master’s in Architecture in 2008, and I’ve been working with the same architecture firm since my graduation.  During my graduate school education, I took a class on energy conservation, and I was instantly hooked!

I became a LEED AP in early 2009 and began to find my way into the green and sustainable community within Dallas.  I am a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) North Texas Chapter and the North Texas Renewable Energy Group (NTREG).  I currently serve on the advisory board for a new Renewable Energy program at Eastfield College (part of the Dallas County Community College District).

For those of you who aren’t aware, LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and AP = Accredited Professional.  LEED is a rating system for green buildings, and upon passing a test demonstrating knowledge of green building, I became a LEED AP.  For more information on LEED, please visit the USGBC website: http://www.usgbc.org/

My interest in green living extends beyond buildings.  On a macro scale, I am interested in green communities, and on a micro scale, I try to incorporate green decisions and products at home.  Figuring out where to start in making green choices can be overwhelming; we just start with one little thing at a time.  For example, when we ran low on coffee, we researched what the most sustainable coffee would be, for the next time we went to the store.  For those who hope to live a greener life, just keep thinking, “baby steps,” and you’re well on your way.

Boy have I been missing out. This site has had some great heads up on activities and events I would have loved to attend. If only I had been keeping my antenna up! It’s been too long since I visited this site and serves as a reminder that I need to meet the commitment and join the USGBC.
